It is with some happiness that http://antifraudintl.org/ has made the transition away from vB to XenForo.
One of the main reasons, apart from better security is that the staff at XF are actually helpful to their customers and I would like to thank them for their assistance in the changeover.

I just wanted to make my experience public.
I opted for vbulletin after trying the trial version but have been unable to install the vbulletin 5 software. My hosts support team were not able to make it work either and then vbulletin support were also unable.

Amazingly they said in their email that they had seen this problem before! I got the impression that it was quite common. Yet they will not issue a refund!

Potential users should be aware that this situation can occur....

We all know vBulletin has become a complete disaster. Starting with the release of vBulletin 4 that created a tailspin of negative press, and poor releases. It seems the days for vBulletin are officially numbered. No amount of spin from Mark B, Wayne, or anyone else at IB is going to be able to cast a positive light on the project any longer. Adoption rates for vBulletin have been declining since IB took over with each release. vBulletin 4.x never lived up to it's hype or had promised...

Rather than release a patch like they have done in the past which could be used on all versions, the only way to implement this security update, is to update to the latest vb4.2.2 pl2

Reading a thread on vb.org yesterday which was originally asking about TAZ moving of vb.
As the progression of the thread went on, Zachery gave the reason for the lack of mods for vb5

It was not through people binning vb and moving onto other forum software, it was down to the lack of the hook system that has been used in all the earlier versions. Which in turn, has made creating add on's very hard.

From what I have seen, the vbulletin archive feature is only used in all versions until vb5
Is it good or bad to have it turned on
At a guess, its duplicate content and from memory, the vbseo guys used to recommend turning it off

I know when vb4 was on a pre release special offer price, a lot of people jumped in, brought the dream, then lived the nightmare while they made something stable and usable.
By that time, I had lost all interest with their monthly updates, that were mainly less bugs, with a few new ones and maybe a security release for good measure

We recently moved from a single server to two server set up with replication. Since then we've been running into a very odd issue in vB. Sometimes when you click on a link, it'll take you to an entirely different link... but only in Firefox. That's the only major browser, anyway. I think someone said it happened in an old AOL browser too. Obviously, this is a problem because the forums are virtually unusable in a major browser.

I have never seen this before and the hosts have been unable to...

Im at the stage where I need to upgrade, hence my interest in the progress of vb5
Im running vb3.8.1, not upgraded since about 2008
Earlier this year, I was forced to change my hosting company and then the problems began of intermittent 500 errors when people tried to post
Lots of hours spent with the hosting company who only ever want to upgraded the php, rather than set it to an older version

4.2.3 is still in beta, so I can hang on until that goes gold

The first post, listing the sites was last updated in 2009
