Unfortunately, despite having the auto renew option selected, our domain name expired, which led to to the site being inaccessible for some.

All is back in order, although there may be a delay for some as the DNS updates.

Apologies to those who have been affected and with a little luck, not everyone will be affected.

Wow just Wow. Everyone makes mistakes but when you're entire business rests on a domain name you kind of make sure it's renewed for multiple years at a clip.

True enough, but if you have auto-renew selected, you'd hope it'd actually renew it!

There's also a grace period of around 30 days depending on registrar to re-instate expired domains. While it doesn't look great it expiring, I've just discovered a few threads over on the namecheap forum with similar auto-renew problems.
