Windows Movie Maker plus problems is nothing new.:( I have used it a few times, and those few times I had more problems then I could have ever imagined. There are many things that could go wrong and I was forced to restart it multiple times to get things to work again. I did manage to finish making my movie and in the end I just uninstalled the program all together. It's always a good idea to save your work every few mins. Maybe someone had better luck then me, but it was too much of a hassle for me to make it work.

Good luck and save your work often. ;)

Movie maker works great - its the add-ons that makes it crash.

When you install video players like divx, or software that came with a new digital camera - the software will try to add its own extensions to movie maker. After awhile you get too many extensions installed, conflicts come up, and movie maker crashes all the time.

I think its under something like tools - options - extensions, or installed extensions,,, something like that - disable all of the extra extensions that have been installed. Especially disable the ones from canon, sony, divx,,,,,.

That is most likely why I had problems. I had all kinds of codecs, including DivX, installed.

DIVX codec in movie maker by itself seems to be stable, it just seems to make movie maker run a little slow.

When my movie maker started crashing, it probably had 8+ different codec installed. Every video player I had installed added its own code to movie maker, then there was stuff from canon, nikon, sony,,,.

Disable all of that, and movie maker should be a lot more stable.

It does not have to be just from cameras, it could be from video players you installed, or were installed by who made your computer. Stuff like winamp, divx, quicktime,,,,, or any other video player can add its own codec to movie maker.
