I did a search using the words "who's online" and it didn't come up with anything... but I apologize if this was brought up somewhere before. .

I was wondering if there were any way to show all the members who are currently on the forum, without having to use the link? It's not that big of a deal, but it just takes my computer awhile to load that page for some reason. It's just a little convenience that would be nice. Don't know if anyone else would like it, how much trouble it would be, or if it would be a pain to do it. It's not like anyone's in the middle of revamping a site or something! .

Are you referring to where it says their are blahblah guests and blahblah members online? You'd rather have it list the members out right there, as well as the 'link' too?

That would be awesome if it was implemented.

Alien, yes that was what I was talking about. When you look at the bottom of the main forum page, it says "Banshee Laughter and 6 other members" 7 guests... whatever. If it showed who all was on, then maybe the link wouldn't be needed?

Like I said - it's not a big deal, just thought it would be nice to see at a glance, who else was on, instead of having to use the link. .

The problem I see with that is when this board really grows, and you have 20 people or more online at a given time... that list is going to take up a lot of space.
It's also a little disconcerting to me to have my whereabouts right out in plain view to any guest that pops in. At least with it being one link in, it's not out in plain sight for anyone to see.

I'm with Dan on this one. I'd rather just have the link.

it used to be like that and i think it was changed for the 20+ member situation

i don't mind either way but you could maybe have it list 10-20 people and then have <click here for more...>
    i dunno

Ok, no biggie. If the majority doesn't like the idea, that's the way it should go then! .

Just as a note on this - at the forum I came from, which was five times as big as this one, they had this feature implemented and very rarely, if ever, did they get over 20 people online.
So, in my humble opinion, it's worth implementing.

I think it would just take that main page longer to load, so instead of having a problem with the "who's online" page loading, you'll have more main page probs.

As I said, I like it like it is.

    Same here.
And the fact that I don't like my whereabouts being broadcast in plain sight of any yahoo who wanders by the site.

True, but what about some sort of streamlined "Who's Online" that just says who's online - not where they are.

Because if it says you're online, it means you're currently visiting this website. If you mean something different, I certainly don't want someone knowing when I'm connected to the net or not.
Again, I don't want any yahoo off the net knowing what site I'm visiting.
If you have to click in a link, at least that will deter most people enough that they won't bother checking and go on their way.

What both Dan and Taz said....

You want to streamline the main page for us modem users and flesh out features on supporting pages.

Basically, look at it this way... People will be as lazy as possible in doing their daily activities.
If you put a page in front of them, you usually put the most recent, most important info right at the top of the page so they don't have to scroll down.
If you put something right in front of them, they don't have to work to get it, and that suits them just fine.
But most casual surfers consider clicking down one link too much work to bother.
