If forum software is singular, what would I use to refer to more than one of them, like vBulletin and phpBB without naming the software and using 'forum software types'?

    Singular - plural
    goose - geese
    deer - deer

Just say what the 2 are you are referring to?

I would say forum scripts as well, or bulletin boards
Whenever I've talking to someone who has no idea what vBulletin is, I'll saw bulletin boards, discussion boards or just forums.

Okay, that's the current accepted plural of forum, but technically, the plural of forum is fora. :p

I've always used "software package" and "software packages" or "software program" and "software programs". Or even simpler if the context is known than drop software. Most people actually don't know what "scripts" are except as slang for prescriptions.
