The content, the activity, and there needs to be something on the forum that benefits me. I don't like to waste my time, when I could be making money.

Right now, it's the activity. If a site is dead and there's no one else but me to comment on things, then I definitely don't come back. But if I, for example, open a new thread and get a few replies, that will keep me there. As long as there aren't any rude or sarcastic answers, of course. I can't stand being on a forum with someone who just can't be friendly.

If the staff members and members are cool, I'm coming back. If there's a lot of drama, I'm coming back because I enjoy reading about it sometimes. If the members are inactive, I'm not coming back. Nobody likes to view or join a dead forum and I'm no different.

Content is the key to keep anyone coming back because without it, nobody is interested in what your community has to offer.
