If you use(d) vBulletin on oyour board, or you use(d) a board using vBulletin.

What is the earliest version they/you used?

The most earlier version I have ever used was 3.0.1 :P

How about your history experiences with vB?

The Latest version I have used of vBulletin was 3.8.1. That was on a forum that I was an Administrator at.

I've had tons of history with vBulletin. I think the earliest version I have ever used was 3.0.1 also.

I don't remember exactly, but I think I came in somewhere around version 3.4.

On the first board I admined, we were using 2.x. On the board I am currently admining, we started with 3.0.1, I think.

(Soliloquy, there was no version 3.4. vB went from 3.0 to 3.5.)

I came around in version 3.5.x, but that didn't last for long before 3.6.0 was released.

It must have been 3.5 then, because I definitely don't remember it being 3. Somewhere around that time!

Wayne Luke, I hadn't even heard of vBulletin that far back. Was it already commercial software at that point? What was it like?

1.1.3 was the first commercial release. 1.0 through 1.1.2 were only used for testing purposes and on the original vbworld.com website.

vBulletin was originally developed as a PHP port of the Ultimate Bulletin Board software. At that time Infopop (now Groupee) felt that PHP wouldn't be viable so didn't purchase the package so Jelsoft started selling it.
