If you bring moderators onto your staff that are inexperienced with your forum software, or even moderating in general, how do you train them? Do you just let them try things to figure it out? Do you provide an instructional guide?

In my moderator's manual, it outlines technical use such as locking, splitting, trashing (archiving), editing and other such actions.

My mods usually ask me how to do t, I patiently guide them. Most pick-up pretty quickly.

At some point I'll have a subdirectory in the mod forum for a guide. Right now it is a few sticky threads in the mod forum which keep getting added to.

    2 types of information.
    - how to use the sw from a tech point of view
    - how I'd like them to handle certain situations, every site has different ways of handling things.

At this point I have enough threads in the admin section explaining things, and the existing mods have been training the new ones, that I haven't had to worry about that. :)
