What are some ways MyBB could use some imporvement? I will list the biggest one for me, I would love to see a Rich Text Editor in MyBB, I heard they will have one in MyBB 2.0 if I am correct.

Personally, I think the redirections could do with an improvement to be more in line with the forums style, rather than some box with a few links in, etc.

They need a lot less people who say "no" and more people who say "yes."

Also, their lack of embracing the likes of Facebook Connect and OpenID don't help, either. They also really need to work on their long-term performance on bigger boards, let alone something the size of Dashing.

If their rich text editor ends up anything like IPB's, I'd rather they not implement it. XenForo's is nice though...

They need to overhaul the design. Most forums intelligently lay out buttons and tabs, look at IPB:

    Now look at MyBB:

See what I mean? IPB has actually put some thought into their design. All of MyBB's navigation is done through plain text links...

I also don't really like MyBB's ignorance to the future of forums. I remember someone asking if status updates would become part of the main package, but a staff member replied with something like "We don't want to fill the software with bloat. We want just a forum"

This so-called bloat is the future of forums. People WANT everything social networked. If some caveman wants "just a forum" they'll use PunBB.

Is why one is a free forum and other is not. Difference are what makes us better in the long run though.

There are plenty of free scripts with proper layouts, look at WordPress or Vanilla Forums.

Do those forums have as many people using their script as Mybb? Also I've seen MyBB themes that are near identical with IPB's its just the theme that does that.

MyBB's default is way to plain I agree with timstandstill, but I agree with blazing That MyBB is free, so we cant complain. IPB has to look much better because people buy it, and they have to have neat features, and by the way what IPB has is not a rich text editor, its pretty sad, as a paid software it dosent have this.

In MyBB's defense, the current theme dates back to pre-MyBB 1.0. As in it's more than 5 years old (and parts of it haven't changed since they were first implemented). Yes, there have been several tweaks to the theme over the years, but it's still largely the same theme. IPB's theme, in comparison, was released with 3.0 - in late 2009, compared to 2005, when MyBB 1.0 was released.

That said, I think you'll be pleased with the plans we have in place for MyBB 2.0. The new theme prototypes look pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself. :)

There is not much that I would change, I like the base that MyBB all ready has. That being said, any thing that makes them unique is some thing that I would be interested in.

Yea, it has alot of potential... its much better than other free alternatives, but I feel MyBB could still use some improvement.. which they are doing.

Haha either PunBB or SMF xP

MyBB if you think about it is still fairly new however they do need some more open minds in the development staff. In the very least they could do closed test runs but I guess what can you do? It's free software.

MyBB is not really new, they have been in the "game" long enough, I consider it much better than other free alternatives such as phpBB, PunBB, SMF. I do think however there is still room for improvement.

Yes I believe the same thing you do Kaiser I don't like phpBB, PunBB or SMF at all as much as MyBB however compared to the rest of them they haven't been in the business, at least not as MyBB, at all as long as the other three and there is always room for improvement it doesn't matter who you are.

MyBB is great. Don't dis the default theme, a lot can be done about it. For example, check out *removed* :)
