Has anybody ever tried Skimlinks? http://skimlinks.com/

It seems fairly interesting and I'm wondering if anybody has tried it.
    Their homepage shows this example:
Let’s say you were writing about a product from the Gap. You don’t need to mess around with any affiliate code or even apply to be a member of the Gap affiliate program - just post a link to the product like normal, just as if you were passing the link to a friend. With Skimlinks installed on your site, that link will automatically become an affiliate link.

    Any thoughts or opinions?

Sounds interesting, but do you have any control over which words/links are rewritten? I wouldn't want to install it and discover it rewrote almost every word :)

I think it rewrites links, not words. Not sure though...

This assumption is based off of this part from the website:

There is a thread about this over at vbseo. I can't remember how long it turned out to be or how much info was brought out in the thread but it wouldn't hurt to check it out :)

Thanks, Kevin! I just looked it up and here it is: Skimlinks.com - vBulletin SEO Forums

I found that thread to be particularly helpful because an employee of Skimlinks actually posted in that thread answering questions and such.

Some users there have got off to a great start. It's nice to read some trustworthy testimonials; I might have to try this out!

I have never tried skimlinks. I have never even heard of it before you mentioned it in this thread.

I hadn't heard of it before either. I saw it on a blog somewhere and decided to share it with the community. :)

    No problem :)

Yeah I thought remembered seeing the employee reply to the thread.

If a lot of links are posted I can see where this could really turn into something big for a site!

    **** I'm a Skimlinks Employee ****
    Hi guys

Great to hear you are interested in Skimlinks!

As Nick was saying we only rewrite links not words. In other words if you have site/forum/blog with links to any merchants, eCommerce sites etc that could have affiliate programs; we will automatically add the affiliate link to those links. We do not add any new links to your site and at all times you are completely in control. We only enable the links you add yourself. Once you are signed up you can browse through our list of 6,000+ sites that you can link to that will earn you affiliate commissions and decide if you want to link to them yourself.

If you have questions, comments of feed back, please just let me know, here on the thread or you can PM me here or through our site.

    Thanks again

    Ciarán

Thanks for stopping by, CiaranR. Do you have any minimum requirements for traffic?

We use a number of factors when determining eligibility for our service and yes traffic is one of them. However as the final decision based on a amalgamation of all the factors we don't have a required traffic level. Some of the other factors include overall quality of the site and number of links to sites in our program, plus a few of our own internal factors.

    I hope that helps

    Thanks

    Ciaran

I've applied so we'll see what happens. Not really sure there is much to offer in my space though being the site is focused a small niche in the automotive realm.

I have a site that probably has good enough traffic, but I'm not sure how many relevant links you'll find. And I have another site that probably has enough relevant links, but not much traffic yet. If either site gets rejected, can I resubmit them later after browsing through available affiliate programs/improving traffic?

I was about to post that I had been approved. Now we'll see what the install and results are like.

Thanks for pushing that through so quick...

Setup was very easy. The only thing I am confused about is do I need to set up what merchants I want to use or is this automagic?

It's all automatic, you can link to anyone of our 6000 merchants straight away and we will enable it. Check out the merchants tab in our interface to search on the full list. If you select the Cars category you will see ~100 Auto merchants that we work with.

I just sent you a quick PM re the install.

    Thanks

Thanks for the heads up. I've made the changes noted.

Also checked out the Cars category and see quite a few that could be quite lucrative.

If an advertiser for the site is in the program and a user clicks on their ad banner and makes a purchase is the site owner paid for that as well?
