"New Messages" in title bar on AA

Why does the title bar on AA keep alternating between the page title and "New Messages"?

I haven't got any new messages on here!

It's really irritating when you have numerous tabs open as it keeps distracting you up at the top because it's in the tab as well.

B/c someone is sending you a message via the chat system. Look down at the bottom of your screen for the little bar...

He probably has it disabled. Choosing that option just enables a usergroup conditional, which hides the bar but apparently not the CometChat message notification.

    I'll look into resolving it.

Hmm thanks...wish we could turn that thing off. Never been a fan. Very teenage!

    Edit...apparently we can.

Nick, I didn't have it disabled, I didn't know we could....so it might still stop the notifications, not tested it yet.

Ah, okay. Yes, you can disable it by clicking the red "X" on the left side. Then join the public usergroup on the next screen. :)

    You're coming along quite well Mark.B! ;)

Glad you got the annoyance under control, because that matters the most.

It's only been there for a week or two... so try a hard refresh of your browser. That usually does the trick, especially with CometChat. :)

Ah thanks! I was wondering if it could be disabled. Cheers for the info. :)

    Thanks...that's done the trick.
Yes, I'm much less curmudgeonly this week, and have only referred to something as being "teenage" twice. A vast improvement.

Nick, all the red X does for me is to bring up the offer to join a user group. The bar does not appear to be disabled.

My computer will not go into power off mode if things like this are running and, that is important to me.

Join the public usergroup that it offers after clicking the red "X". :)

    That worked.

I find it a bit strange to do it that way, but it worked fine. Thank you!

Yeah, it is odd that we set it up that way. I could have done it using a custom profile field/option, but it's too late I suppose - plenty of people have manually joined that public usergroup already.

The way it works is that the custom usergroup has no access to the chatbar...
I was thinking about offering it on my forum...then decided against it. Chat was an very important feature due to the fact it was a gaming clan.

    It's never too late. :p

Just go ahead and create the profile field and conditional, then move everyone out of that usergroup allowing you to remove it. Post an announcement informing everyone who wishes to disable the chat must now do so from their options page.

Not much work to it, maybe 2 minutes to create the profile field and add the conditional to the appropriate template. No worries here though. Didn't mean to suggest I had to have it changed, either way is fine with me. Nick shouldn't feel like he can't change it just because others have already disabled it was my only point.

If you created a profile option, couldn't you just run a database query to set that option to the appropriate value for every user currently in the group?

I also find it strange that I have to join a group to disable the chat bar.
