    Hi,
I'm considering getting a (US-based) root server and I'm looking to spend $65-75 per month max.

It should offer at least 200GB of space and should have a fair pricing model as far as monthly transfer rates go.
Good customer support is important as well.

So, any recommendations? If "promoting" hosts is against the rules here (didn't check), please PM me your recommendations. :)

    Just to add:
I'm planning on running 2 vBulletin boards, 1 IPB board, 2 Wordpress blogs (low traffic), 1 Joomla and 2 MediaWikis (low traffic) on that.

I was scanning this forum looking for information and noticed this thread, did you find one?

When you mean 'root server' do you mean either a vps/dedicated with root access?

Yes I did. I found Interserver.net which is simply the best dedicated server host I've seen EVER. Their customer support is faster and better than I have ever seen anywhere.

I also have a VPS account with Servint.net - which is the best VPS host I've ever tried. Again, the customer support is very good which is very important to me.

I've got CentOS and WHM/cPanel pre-installed on both and it's running extremely smooth.

Congratulations on your purchase. :) What are the specifications (hardware-wise) of your new machine?

I realize it does not apply to the dedicated account you have, but this is an interesting TOS

    3.b

3.b is only applicable to virtual hosting and reseller accounts. No site may use more than 15% of the total server output at any given time.

Adult Sites (pornographic) are prohibited on shared/virtual hosting and shared/reseller accounts.

Mailing Lists with over 2,000 members are prohibited on shared/virtual hosting and shared/reseller accounts.

Web Based forums with over 2,000 members are prohibited on shared/virtual hosting and shared/reseller accounts.

Interserver reserves the right to suspend any client which violates section 3 of our Terms Of Service.

Yeah that is a little weird... But I asked a LOT of questions before signing up.
And as long as I don't break laws I can do whatever I want on my machine, so I'm happy with that. :)
Obviously I would not go with their VPS hosting or anything like that with the rules being that way.

On the other hand, I'm hearing that if you want to run vB4 you do need a root server. *lol*

To be clear, I thought the 2000 member limit was strange. Older forums with little activity may have many members, other forums may not display the number of members. Small forums just starting out that consume much resources could have few members.

Places like hostgator use a small number of concurrent connections to limit those types of things, which seems a bit more logical to me.

Yes that does seem more logical...
