What little tricks and modifications do you make on your forum to optimize it for search engines?

There are so many little tricks to do that are said to benefit your forum for SEO purposes. For example, removing the "Powered by" text from the page titles.

I definitely remove the "powered by" text, and also install the free sitemap generator.

I'm not sure how well it's working but I have started using a lot more keywords in my post/replies.

For SMF, the powered by logos that aren't legally required definitely go.

Google loves canonical urls. I am getting a lot more random searches now that Google properly indexes things on my forum.

I'm actually beginning to do a lot more off-site optimization - which means a lot of things, really. I want to promote sites that are willing to link to Elliquiy, etc.
