I know this might be a stretch, but I was wondering if there are enough Soupsters with broadband access who are into games and would want to set up some servers? I was thinking of just a few...more for the HPB crowd....UT, Q3A, Q2, and Q1...at the very least, one of the first two (Q3A and UT) and one of the last two (Q2 and Q1) for those with older hardware. I don't know if this is reasonable, but I think it would be crazy fun for us to have some servers for us to come meet and play on. If I had broadband access, it would already be done. It's just an idea. It might even help draw more of a crowd to the soup, too. I mean, a friendly board of folks who post together and play together? I just see that as a good ad for those who aren't in the Soup.

    Not a bad idea there.

What would the person serving have to do? I really don't get to play alot of online games myself, even though I have a library full of them.

Basically, just have a box for the server and keep it running. It doesn't usually have to be the latest and greatest machine, either.

486/66+ will do a Quake 1 dedicated server.
    Pentium will do Quake 2
Anything higher will do most of the modern games like UT or Q3A

Broadband connection like DSL, Cable, or dorm T1/T3 would be nice, too.
