When choosing a name and domain name for your forum, do you buy a domain name with "yourkeywordforum.com" or one like "uniquelynamedforum.com"? That is, would you go for the keywords over a unique name you chose for your site? Or would you buy both and redirect the keyword one to the unique name one?

I'd probably purchase both - it's even better if the two domain names are somewhat interchangeable for future use. :)

I try for just the keyword, no forum in it, sometimes that doesn't work though

you can definitely build branding by using a name that doesn't exactly describe what you are or is along the same function but still doesn't tell you

    examples:

Google -- without knowing, you don't know what it does
    Wal-Mart -- okay a store but???
Yelp! -- somebody is emitting sound, or in pain or something
    yahoo -- lol what?

    etc, good names stick

Well my domain name is just the name of my topic: Lineolated Parakeet [.net].

It's a fairly uncommon niche, so the domain wasn't taken. I want to get the .com when/if it ever becomes available.
