So, as a content person I'd go with content being more important than a design - because you don't want heavy loading time with a design, you want a simplistic one that's good on the eyes, and easy to navigate.

But what do you guys think? Is a design more important than the content of a site?

Well I would go with the design then content being second, because if a site has a terrible layout, very bad color combination... then theres no point in having good content as no one can read it, or if they can they'd have a hard time.

I honestly think you need to have a balance if you site design is terrible and I can't stand it then I won't even bother with the content.
With that said though, if the design is great and then I start looking through content and a lot of it is generic then I will become uninterested rather quickly.

As a Graphics Designer, people rely me on graphics more than content

Well, what if the layout is the default for a forum software? Good content beats it.

Off course it does.. default layouts/themes are fine, but if it does have a horrible looking layout with a bad color combo, and what not than content doesn't matter to me.

Content is key, but you do need a reasonably pleasant design though

What about using the default forum skin that a forum software offers?

Depends, Like on your forum you are using the default skin, and its looking pretty good as you have done some customizations. Some forums use the default and don't bother making changes..
