Call me 'the oracle' because I forsee the future...

This is a great post by a long time member on the future of vBulletin and Internet Brands told 3.5 years ago.

Back in June 2009, over 3.5 years ago, I expressed my concerns about the future of vBulletin in this thread:

I carefully worded my post as outspoken criticism was getting people banned at the time.
In a nutshell the guys I trusted to develop the vBulletin had all left and until I felt I could trust the new developers, I was staying with 3.8.2. I was concerned about the future of vBulletin. It's almost like I could see the disaster coming.

I wrote
it seems that IB have told the original development team, it's our way or the highway, and unwilling to implement foolhardy methodology/functionality, have, en mass, hit the highway.
That means the team that made vB good has now gone, and their vast experience has gone with them.
Ray Morgan the then General Manager replied with little comfort.
I have to disagree with the idea that there has somehow been a loss of experience on the development team. The fact is that we are growing the team, and not only do we have expertise with vBulletin is it exists today, the team has the expertise to architect the next generation of vBulletin that will emerge throughout the 4.x series and beyond.
Ray wisely left a few months later. His last post on vBulletin is December 2009.

To deny that there was a loss of experience in the development team is laugh out loud wrong. Mike, Kier and Scott as a team *made* vBulletin and losing them was a catastrophe for Internet Brands.
I understand that Ray Morgan is a nice bloke. As most likely are all the developers and support staff who are holding the **** end of the stick right now with regard to the utter disaster that is vBulletin 5.

Whether or not Ray was right about the development team having the expertise or not to develop vBulletin throughout the 4.x series and beyond is debatable. You could have the best team in the world, but if they have to follow the orders of the worst manager in the world, the end results are going to be bad.
And the evidence in the last 3.5 years supports the assertion I am making now that the development of vBulletin has been mismanaged.

As I understand it, vBulletin 4 has only relatively recently become what most of its users call a decent product. Years too late in my opinion. I would call what happened with vBulletin 4 a disaster. The PR mess of the pricing and licensing changes. The leaked development schedule. The security holes. The inept coding. Sorry, but there has been plenty.

So did I expect vBulletin 5 to be good? No.
And vBSI have met my expectations. Listen to the expert developers who have looked at vB5 and ripped it to shreds. Bad architecture. Bad methodology, bad coding, Too many queries and a mess of CSS. I mean a RIDICULOUS number of queries and CSS definitions.

And vBulletin 5 has vBulletin 2 code in it. What more do you need to say?

vB5 is even more of a disaster than vB4. Just amazing.

And of course the buck stops with the management. Can anyone argue it hasn't been mismanaged?

Wayne and the moderators are asking for constructive criticism.
Here it is.
Ditch the old code. Rewrite vBulletin from scratch like you should have done 4 years ago.

And the future as I see it?
Well I see sales of vBulletin not supporting the development costs and the owners pulling the plug. Yep. I think something radical has to happen with vBulletin.
I hope Brisco gets the boot for a start. At this point, I am utterly disgusted with Brisco and Internet Brands.
