Well, right off the bat with Mochi integration it allows admins to offer their users thousands of legally obtainable games instead of using pirated games. Behind the scenes the 2.x series was totally rewritten, it is a true vB application (as opposed to something that was hacked to work with vB), and integrates nicely (eg: no concerns about savings templates as files in vB4 ).

And, yes, it is available for free.

What's mochi?

 

One thing that v3A currently does not support is user group permissions per game category. I mention it as an FYI in case that is something that any admins currently using other vB arcade addons are using. For example, if you have an "Adults Only" game category that only users in the "NSFW" usergroup can see, then that is not something v3A currently supports (not a big enough demand for at the moment).

Mochi is short for Mochi Media who used to be known as Mochi Ads. It is an arcade ad-supported publishing system. The simplest way of putting is that a site admin can be a publisher by putting freely available arcade games on their site supplied by the developer of the game. When users play those games there will be a short ad displayed prior to the game starting. Both the developer & publisher will then earn a commission in exchange for the ad being displayed. The develope will earn a bigger commission than the publisher. The earnings are based upon the number of impressions (sort of like Google Adsense but with arcade games instead). The amount of the earnings for publishers though is really tiny so the best way of looking at it is getting free ad-supported arcade games rather than as a revenue channel.

Thousands of free & legal games in exchange for displaying ads is a much better solution than pirating games IMHO.

 

If these are iBProArcade compatible I'll take you up on that offer once my PP gets straightened out.

I have something in mind for handling AO/NSFW games but that'd be for a future version.

Current versions are always released at v3Arcade.com first so grab the copy from there. If you're interested in Mochi, check out that link I gave above. On your test site, if you want to try an IPB to v3A conversion first, check this thread. As long as you don't uninstall IPB before installing v3A you'll be able to convert your existing games & scores.
