If you would like to add "122.170.2.110" to your banned IP list, I would suggest that you do.

The user is known to make numerous accounts on various forums. Not only mine, but other forums which I use. Always using the same IP.

He advertises Viagra, makes advertisements in his signature and profile.

He seems to hit many Administrator/Advertising (such as Forum Advertiser/Forum Promotions) sites.

Thank God he hasn't attacked Setsou or Bird is the Word.

Just ban India completely along with Russia and China. I completely ban a list of countries that are spammer havens. Maybe that's why it's not a problem on my site.

 

Nah, this one registered under gatsmats1 or something like that. I run everyones IP through the Stop spam sites. If they show on the list, good by.

 

I could never ban a country in its entirety.

I mean, some of those three countries may actually generate legitimate traffic.

 

How many members on your forum are from either of those countries?

I can tell you that the only member I have from a spammer-like country is Japan - and I only have one.

I'd give up that member in order to stop the hundreds of spammers.

Every time someone starts one of these threads, the IP is already reported on botscout.com so I don't need to maintain messy lists on my own site.

Well if you've been running a community for years and your answer is still "none", then I wouldn't expect a random influx of people from those countries to appear out of nowhere.

 

So how do you ban a country?

 

IP address ranges.

 

Just don't ban '*'... That would be bad.

 

Japan isn't a problem.

Now realistically how many legit members do you think I am losing versus the problems solved by banning them? Yeah I know Russia is big but they are the #1 threat online. Do your homework about that if you don't believe me. Russia has some serious spammers, hackers, and illegal online crime syndicates.
