I need to add some text to photos, and it needs to look good. Almost like a subtle watermark but the placement and text color needs to be controlled.

MS paint would produce horrible results.

I do not have any photo editing software, what is a simple easy to use, and free software?

I found this but I've not tried it

Photobucket would be my guess, I've used it for making a small water mark, reducing the opacity and all.

Watermark factory for bulk watermarking images. This is a commercil grade solution with lots and lots of options.

For watermarking one at a time, look up a program called Photoscape. Photoscape is free and well worth the download.

Nice! If vB could make some videos on their site like the ones in the help section of this site they would increase sales! A lot of people do not relate the web terminology to what they are supposed to do.

    Photoscape

Edited to add: If that video help was working more consistently it would be great. It seems to work one minute and not the next minute.

A lot of people swear by a program called Gimp. I have Photoshop so I've never tried Gimp, but everyone says it can pretty much do anything Photoshop can do.

And it's free. GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Thanks, I'll look at Gimp too.

As it turns out IrfanView will do this as well, which I already had on my computer

Added: I just checked and Photoshop is $700. It appears they are changing their business model at least to some degree.

Thanks Nick. Sounds like paint.net might be worth looking into for my needs.

Does anyone know is paint.net can do vector graphics? (whatever those are )

Thanks! I'll check them out later.
