    I think the ad in the navbar maybe irrelevant and I'll present 3 good reasons why.

    1. The CTR for that placement, will be very low
    2. It crunches the navbar extremely bad on a fixed width style
    3. The ad is showing irrelevant to page content about 80% of the time.

    I create this motion to remove the one advertisement from the Navbar, and place it below, or above the navbar (outside of it)

    Perhaps, switching the "Link units" after first post, place them under the breadcrumbs. Move advertisement in navbar to after first post (Where link units are currently)
    :2cents:

    Ex: For this post, I'm getting ads about drug rehab

    1. On another of my forums, this placement is the second-highest earning. It has been very rewarding there, and I think it will be no different here.

    2. True, but we intend to modify this style so it is no longer fixed-width.

    3. Also true, but 1) I believe it may take time for it to start displaying relevant content and 2) I haven't implemented the section targeting just yet. I plan to do that possibly tonight, and we can see if that makes an improvement (based upon my past experiences, I expect that it will)

    Lastly, it is a high possibility that AdSense ads will not be displayed to Premium Members. Might be something you may become interested in. :)

    Nick, what is "section targeting"? You mentioned it in answering question #3 from Dave's list.

    Section targeting helps the AdSense crawler identify the main content of the website, and display advertisements relevant to that text. On another one of my forums, I was getting completely irrelevant advertisements, but upon implementing section targeting, the ads became much more relevant.

    https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=23168

    Some places to target would be:

    • Post content
    • Thread titles
    • Forum titles
    • Forum descriptions

    P.S.: I just finished implementing the section targeting here, so let's see if the relevancy of the advertisements improves. :)

    Its google adsense section targeting. Lets you tell google the important content on the site.

    PS Nick you may want to check your source, I think vBSEO has implemented the section targeted for you ;)

    glad to hear we're going to be getting a fluid one eventually!

    Oops, I didn't think of that. I didn't check before I implemented it myself, so I have no clue if it was already there or not. :P

    Oh well.

    ETA: Yes, there is an option in vBSEO to automatically target important sections, and yes I do have it enabled. So in some places, the target is there twice. The more the merrier, right? :P
    I don't think it'll do any harm.

    Interesting. So, I would put this....

    Code:
    <html><head><title>Section targeting</title></head>
    <body>
    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->

    INFORMATION ON YOUR SITE

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
    </body>
    </html>
    ...in certain templates... (which ones?)... in order to get the most relevant content populating?

    Well I would start with the postbit. Wrap the section targeting around the message of the post:

    Code:
    [I][...][/I]<!-- / icon and title -->
    </if>

    <!-- message -->
    <div id="post_message_$post[postid]">
    $ad_location[ad_showthread_firstpost_start]
    [COLOR=Orange][B]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->[/B][/COLOR]
    [COLOR=DarkGreen][B]            $post[message][/B][/COLOR]
    [COLOR=Orange][B]<!-- google_ad_section_end -->[/B][/COLOR]
    </div>
    <!-- / message -->

    <if condition="$show['attachments']">
    <!-- attachments -->[I][...][/I]
    Then just find the other important parts of templates, and do the same.

    If you have vBSEO, look at the post above yours. :)

    Aha, very interesting indeed :)

    I have vBSEO on WDBoards.com, but don't on the others and I want to make sure that I do everything that I can to help things out until I can pick up some additional vBSEO licenses (if I choose to do so, that is).

    Thanks! :D

    I was just about to ask how that ad was doing for you. I think on fluid designs it could be a real winner. Though as Dave says, it's actually showing me almost spam-like ads "Security Passwords - Reset your security passwords with something something". Though "Ad in navbar" might not have much going for it in the Google Adsense database to be fair.

    I'll go see if there are relevant ads in some other topics.

    After clicking through the site for a bit it's giving very related ads on the homepage and in the main vbulletin forum and what-not, so I'd keep it if its working guys.

    I didn't click it - **blushes** - much

    I liked the fact that AA was pretty much ad free and ponied up the bucks to support the site as I know what it costs to keep the site running without all that trash. Please remove them for those of us that support the site.

    Further suggestions:

    • Remove advertisements for those who have donated.
    • Remove them from pages that the Adsense crawler can't crawl content on (Pages that Guests can't see) such as: UserCP (profile) and Private Messages (private). This one really isn't a complaint, but more of a "Fitting within Adsense Guidelines"
    Code:
    <if condition="THIS_SCRIPT == profile || THIS_SCRIPT == private">

    <else />
    Ad Code
    </if>

    You had to know a mini-revolt was coming from em :D But I still love AA and will continue to post here

    And if possible don't down load the information at all. By connection is problematic for the last week.

    Ads will be removed for Premium Members in the near future. I'm just trying to see what results we have when they are displayed to everybody.

    The navbar advertisement is being removed immediately.
