I've had a few slightly creepy members, but I wouldn't characterize them all as dangerous... most were more pathetic and lonely than anything...

I visited a forum for law students once that was mostly filled with miserable, nasty people. Stayed long enough to PM the owner about an issue...
On my forums we rarely close any threads; only when they've gotten completely out of hand. The members seem to view it as a very shameful thing...
I haven't had this problem with my staff; we don't really use the reputation system anyway.
