Yes you can, I have done it. All you need to do is rename them and in the config.php file change the folder name of the admin and mod cp.
That really looks better than vB's one, hopefully vB can do something more like it.

Usually I just get them to PM a Moderator or Admin and they will sort it out for them. Most of the time its just easier for us to do it that way.
