Last year I noticed my site suddenly dipped down to a PR of 2 from a high of 5. I checked my indexed URLs and backlinks, but everything looked ok. I worked on getting some more backlinks and it slowly rose back up over a period of several months, but I'm not sure what else I could have done to fix it. What would you have done?

As long as the number of backlinks did not change, dont worry about it. Page rank is the measure and quality of the links you have.

If you PR went down, a lot of your links might have had the "nofollow" tag added, some of your linking sites might have received a penalty and can no longer pass page rank, some sites may have gone off line,,,,,, lots of things could have happened.

Never worried about PR, it is what it is.

I would be worried, even though I try not to live by PR. LOL

I would just work on getting more backlinks, but I'm not sure how I would specifically handle things.

I never care. If I get a boost in rank I sell links. PR is to be abused and nothing more.

Run around screaming, "oh my god"...

Actually, Look at your own analytics. If your traffic isn't decreasing and you're getting the same incoming traffic from your major referrers than you have nothing to worry about. When you lose a major referrer than you should worry.
