SMF has the following click able buttons right on the homepage:

    1) Show unread posts since last visit

    2) Show new replies to your posts

    3) View the most recent posts on the forum

VB has the following click able button right on the homepage:

    1) Unread posts

Now I see that SMF shows, View the most recent posts on the forum as being similar to VB with Unread posts.

However SMF allows two more ways to see the postings, since the last time the forum was visited, the old ones or the new ones.

VB use one page, while SMF use three different pages for a greater selection of choices on reading an existing post.

In SMF,on the homepage,I can delete all old or new post listings,by clicking on the button MARK ALL MESSAGES AS READ,in either of the old or new posting listing pages.

In VB I see no way to do that.

However in VB the member can go to the user cp and edit the topics folder,to delete one or delete them all.

In SMF,I can not do that at all!

    Did this help?

Now I am going to go see what I could do with myBB,to see the differences.

    :)

He wants to be able to use the UNREAD REPLIES list, the way SMF is set up as.

SMF breaks it down into two groups. The OLD unread replies list and the NEW unread replies list, since the last forum visit. They can be deleted.

VB does not have it that way, just one giant list of unread posts to click on.They can not be deleted at all.

I see it in the right upper corner.

SMF just differs by breaking it down a little more.

The Unread Post function in the upper rights is not out of the box in vB but is a mod.

It was never a big deal to me since I hardly ever use the features anyway.Alex on the other hand has made it clear that it is important to him and thus the reason why he wanted to know if he could do similar here with VB.

I'm not sure what it is you are referring to.

I tried 2 of those features in MyBB a week ago. They seem to be a basic search feature, where you have to wait for the search to finish. Even in an empty forum, you have to wait 2-3 seconds for the result to show.

If you are part in a very active forum, it's a very handy feature. My users uses the "Show new replies to your posts" a lot. Some of them are only visiting my forum once or twice a week and don't want to bother with emails.
So when they visit the forum, they instantly get a list of topics that is of importance for them.

    Tagging individual Posts?

You know, I come across a ton of great and useful posts. However, they are within threads where they are not related actually.

I don't know if this makes sense, but here is my best analogy.

Vborg as the "tag modification". afaik, it is only tagging that entire thread, not an individual post.

Is this possible? Or is there some other recommended way people...archive posts for later reference within a thread?

So this is really a question that could become a suggestion for AA, maybe. Or the function is present and I'm just baloooooga'ed.

    Thanks in advance

I don't understand this. What is it you can't do in SMF?
