Would it be wrong to point out suspected nulled software to the authorities?

Suppose you visited a forum that you suspected was really a nulled version of the vB software, based mostly on the owner's statements, the type of activity on the forum, and the general quality. The owner in question was not a competitor, nor had he ever done anything to you personally. Should you contact Pirate Reports/Jelsoft and suggest they check it out, or should you mind your own business?

I would report them, but only if I'm fairly sure it's a nulled copy. It's not right that people are running copies of software that we have rightfully paid for.

If there is enough reason to suspect so then yes, if there wasnt something screaming this forum is running nulled software then I would mind my own business.

Report them. They can quickly check to see if that site is running a valid license.

If you think that a site is using nulled vBulletin, you could always get Jelsoft to check it out. Just tell them about it here.

Yeah, it's really not a big deal to report it. If it's a false positive, nothing happens to you. If not, then you have successfully taken a nulled board off the market. :)

I would just like to point out that I didn't ask the question for myself, I was asking for a friend who wanted to remain nameless.

That is what they all say...

On a related question, WHY would anyone use a nulled copy of vB. There is no support for it unless you own a legal copy.

I searched around for less than some seconds and found sites who had downloads for these kinds of things and for he mods as well.

If I'm quite certain that a community is indeed using a nulled copy of a software script, I will indeed report the situation immediately. I have no tolerance for those who decide that they're above the law in such a scenario.

Amen to that ^. I do the same.

Unfortunately, they don't always get taken off the market. This site has been reported by numerous people, and it's still going strong. They're quite arrogant about it too.

Oh wow, that's really a shame. I think though that if the site is hosted somewhere foreign, where the host doesn't care, then it can't be taken down.

But there must be something that can be done. Those people are living the vB life as much as we are - they apparently have access to anything and everything.

That makes me so angry.

If we do, then I'm sure you both know exactly what steps to take in order to properly report the suspected member... But public accusation is not going to be tolerated - I'm just warning in advance. :D
