I didn't want to hijack Nick's thread, so instead I started my own. I'm looking suggestions on advertising my forum: Welcome To Semiauto Rifles

Military sites for sure. And "Red state" web sites like Bill O'Reilly fan forums?

There are a variety of online directories and search engines that may be a perfect fit for your gun forum.

Just a few forums that I know of to start you off are listed below.

    AR15.com
    Frugalsquirrels.com
    assaultweb.com
    warrifles.com

These are fairly big forums that have alot of traffic and are pretty good places to start with advertising at.

    Hope this helps some

I just had to go check out the FrugalSquirrels site and wanted to warn everyone in advance that it isn't really run by squirrels. No cute squirrel pictures or anything. I am so disappointed.

Those are all pretty much competitors...especially AR15.com.

    Thanks a lot though.

Gun shows seems like a pretty cool idea. As for locally, I'm thinking about doing some advertising at the local gun range...the only gun range in probably 100 miles ;)

To advertise the site you could make up some stickers and mail them to gun shops, or maybe there are relevant magazines, does the NRA have a magazine? All you need is a nice slogan to let people know why they should check out your site.

There must be something that you could improve on regarding your competitions sites. Maybe better layout, more laid back moderating, higher class members, something like that.

Is it possible that some good people might not post to those types of sites because the atmosphere is less than ideal? Maybe start collecting reference material and filing things away on your site, and when people see your site they would join up?

You could always make posts on Yahoo answers? People must ask some sort of questions about guns. Gun safety. Or something along those lines that you could answer the question with a link back to your site. It's free advertising and brings in a good amount of traffic.

Anti-gun rallies. No, I'm serious. Just hand out your business card or flyer to the gun toting side arguing against the non-gun toting side.

Visit the local gun shows and hand out some business cards.

Survivalist types of sites could be a good market by using your forum signature.
