Ok no, I'm not on that. In spite of the last year with all the new type of marriage going around, a topic much like my title seems to have popped up at least once on forums I visit. Still confused? Well, I'm avoiding using the word in case I hurt someone's feelings, but what's your view on these threads?

Personally, I keep out of them. I don't like to have them around as soon as arguments start erupting. However, I'm all for members discussing the issue without slandering each other or throwing your mamma jokes at each other.

Your view on having these types of threads?

I allow them but tend not to take part in the discussions. I don't really feel the need to share my view(s) on such a subject via an online interface.

Pretty much, I've always felt these kinds of topics, as well as say gun control, abortion, education, etc. tend to be very risky because you may end up jeopardizing the climate of your forum.

You're right on with that. As soon as a member (or members) realize that a personal view of yours conflicts with their own beliefs, it could turn out to be a bit of a problem.

These are indeed risky topics. Here's a little excerpt from my rules on the Linnie Forum:
(Rule #1 is the usual "be respectful", bla bla bla rule)

This has never been an issue though, so I guess I'm lucky.

I try to limit Socio-Religious and Political Views from my forums. However if the topic comes up and the people can be civil without name calling, then it will probably stay. I don't even talk about these subjects at family get-togethers because they can get heated let alone a semi-public forum. If they come up in personal dialog with others than I love a good political or religious discussion, even if I disagree with the other person's views but not in large groups of people.

On a general chat community forum, I have no problem with these types of threads at all. As long as people can stay away from name-calling and insults, I let 'em have at it. If names and insults start flying, there's a warning. If I have to go beyond 3 warnings, the thread gets closed.

As long as they are placed in the right forums, I'm fine with them.

However, once posts start getting out of control, I archive them... I don't delete the whole thread.

Marriage is fine, I believe everyone should try it at least once :D

Honestly, as long as people respect other people's opinion I'm fine with most topics. Oh an as long as they keep it pretty close to P-13 as well.

I think that marriage is just another form of Torture..lol I've been married and divorced twice now. I have now come to the conclusion that marriage only hurts a relationship. Most people that get married these days, do so mainly for the financial benefits etc.. My views on the subject, so now I'll wait for the back lash...;)

There's no real problem, but they can become quite heated if not monitored.

Well in truth, the subject doesn't really come up. I mean same sex marriage isn't something you really see on a gun forum.

    Good point...

I didn't think it'd be something to come up on a gaming forum...

See, this came up back when I had the gaming forum... It transformed itself to a debate forum... Well, that was the most populated forum, any way.

Marriage is one of the differences between humans and animals. Even though a lot of animals "marry" - such as doves and coyotes - the human marriage is unique I believe.

On the other hand, marriage and only having sex with one person goes against natural selection. During times of disease and starvation, people with certain genetic traits are more likely to die off. If you take a female that has children by more then one man, during tough times, there is a better chance that at least 1 child will survive. If all of the children are genetically the same, the more likely they are to all die from a disease or starvation.

This was first noticed and documented during the 1300s when the plague would kill off entire families. But some families survived. The plague would kill everyone in one house and in the next house nobody would die. The plague was killing off those that were weak. This is natural selection where the strong survive.

Having kids with only one person, makes your offspring more likely to die off and more likely that your genetic code / family tree will come to an end.

With modern medicine there is not "too" much to worry about with entire towns and families dying off like they did in the 1300s - 1600s.

    Thanks for answering the thread's title question, though it'd be nice if you could answer this question;
