We get a lot of members sign up claiming to know vBulletin like the back of their hands and asking us if we will make them staff, obviously no we wont, just because someone knows vBuletin doesnt mean they can administrate, moderate or support people the way we expect. Arent they just annoying? Once theyre turned down they seem to post replies mentioning vBulletin this and that to members support and suggestions, telling you how to implement a larger reputation box, this and that

Does anyone else get this often? We even had someone on Comet chat the other day saying they have ran forums etc before so we should give them an important role, I just dont get these people, if they are good at running forums, where is theirs right now? It can be so annoying!

Ask them where their forum is at. When they say "I dont have one". Come back with some real smart remark like - "Yea, I thought so."

One time I posted some suggestions on a forum. And one of the members got offended and posted "just where is your forum". At the time my forum only had around 625,000 post. But I still posted an link anyway. After that, they shut up and took me a little more serious. Considering the guy only had a few hundred post compared to my 625,000.

So tell them to either put up, or shut up.

Some people like to be part of a already established community and the thought of them making a new one from scratch just hunts them.

Other than that, no I don't get members saying they know about MyBB.

Lol now that would be great! That is the problem though, if you say that to them they wont bother joining in posting as a member, theyll leave in embarrassment, I know I would rofl

hmmm... Can I be staff on your site? I have probably forgotten more about vBulletin than most others know.

Really if someone joins a site, they need to prove their worth to the community before they ask to be made staff.

Exactly, even if a vb.com team member like yourself were to ask we couldnt approve you onto the team without evidence of your community worth. It is nice to know a person a little before taking them on too :)

Yes, actually I get about one of these jokers a week. I tell them to stick around and make some posts and we'll go from there in a couple months.

Amazingly they all never come back after reading that.

I had this person join my sons forum, did not make a single post - and sent me a private message asking if he could be a moderator. I replied that he should make some post in the forum first. He never came back.

What amazes me is the people with fluff posts, poor spelling and zero punctuation who email you to say outright they want to be an admin. "Please learn to speak in complete sentences first..."

What are your thoughts on the "one post" members? I've run into these individuals quite often - they quite literally take the time to register (without editing their profile information), make one post which is of low-quality, and then "demand" (in essence) a staff position.

    Talk about rude.

I've had this quite a few times, actually I had a member tell me that he wants to be staff on the forum when he is only active on the chat? Rarely posted in the forums and he said the forums had nothing that interested him.

    If I'm hearing this correctly...

This individual wanted to be a forum staff team member, but he had absolutely no interest in the actual forum due to the fact that the content was not to his liking.

    Is this correct?

I don't think I've ever heard of an individual doing something like that - I'll be adding that to my list of the "Top 10 Strangest"!

Lol! He's been asking lately for the mods approval, when I already told him he has to post in the community.

Just goes to show that for many people the mod and admin positions are considered status symbols, not actual work.

You hit the nail right on the head, Michelle - the thought of holding such a position (of power) tends to go directly to their heads (rather than motivating them to work harder, even after being promoted).

I would never put someone in such an awkward position and I wouldn't give such a reply. They're a member and I don't think they'd enjoy being treated poorly.
