Is there a plugin that displays a smiley dropdown or such on the text editor in the control panel?
You know, for when you're composing a post?

I'm sure I've seen one, but can't find it.

Yep Wordpress. I appreciate that link to text replacements etc, Dan.

Forget the first post above, I'm having a bigger issue right now. I uploaded replacement smiley images to the server and they are all showing above the editor when you go to comment to a post. However, only the basic smilies will show in a post. For example, if I click on the happy or sad smiley image, it will show the image in a comment. However if I click on any of the extras, such as tongue, yes, no, etc. I only get the :p or  or  in the comment.

You can test it out here - http://peggygurney.com

I can't figure out what the issue is. They are correct in the smiley.php file. Every single smiley is preceeded with icon_, such as icon_smile.gif, and icon_no.gif.
But as I said only the default basic smilies will work.

    Have you had this problem?

I made a test with all the smilies I could click on, and this is the result (one or two seem to be missing) :

Thanks for looking. I'm glad it's not just me. The no is missing. It is the last one, next to the crying smiley.
There's got to be a way to figure this out.

I have another blog, and didn't have this issue. They're all there, and useable.

There are a few issues, the number one issue is the smile path is incorrect.
This is what it's calling for
    peggygurney.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Also here is the view of the comment area from IE, Chrome and Firefox.

Brandon, I deleted those smilies only about a 1/2 hour ago. I'm trying to get rid of that row of smilies, because I installed a plugin that shows new smilies below the editor.
Where on earth in this control panel do you disable smilies??

I googles how to turn off WP smilies in the CP. The instructions say to go to your Admin Panel, select Settings -> Writing, and in the Formatting section, uncheck the box for "Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display.

I did that 2 hours ago, and they still are haunting me!! grrrrrrr...

I fixed it. I designed a custom theme using the Artiseer software, and my theme came with a smiley.php file. I had to open that and delete all the smilies.
    It's good now. Whew!

VERY weird that I could add additional smilies and they would show up on the editor, but when you clicked them in a post, they wouldn't convert to an image in the post.
So I found me a nice plugin and got rid of the ones that came with it, lol.

Really? WP recommends not to use that. For performance reasons, supposedly.

    go to your wp-admin
than open up the settings tab
than go to the permilink option and put "/%postname%/" in for custom setting (without the quotes)
