This is a bit of an advice-seeking post, mainly because I'm in this position right now.

What has been your experience with sharing forums between sites? There are some that do it, and do it really well. For example, a network of TV fansites, like www.kryptonsite.com and www.herosite.net and www.bionicwebsite.com all "share" www.kryptonsite.com/forums, this way, members can easily travel into different sections and universally discuss the shows covered by these sites.

For my Moonlight site, I was thinking about creating a Dexter site. There are multisite components for Joomla that allow me to sync the userbase betweeen two sites as well as Fireboard, so I know it's doable. I just wonder if it would be better to have a seperate forum for Dexter, or to make a Dexter section on the Moonlight Fans Forum.

If I were you I might take advantage of Joomla!'s Fireboard and try it. I don't see how this could negatively impact your Moonlight Fans Forum.

I ended up adding a Dexter section on the forum, but not doing a site, but doing a site for another series, New Amsterdam (www.nafans.com ... launching in a few days!) and making a section on Moonlight Fans Forum for it.

I'm a fan of making a system of boards, that is only if I have the boards that I'm running are at their peak. I wouldn't start 4 different forums and try building each one up. One at a time; wax on - wax off.
