Of all the forums you've visited and participated in, what are some of the most redundant things you've encountered? Whether it be a silly policy, a useless feature or modification, or anything else that made you wonder, "what the heck is that for?"

One of the redundant things I've encountered is being a new member of a forum where I could make no more than one post per hour until I was validated by an administrator. This is an interesting spam-prevention technique, but I registered because I wanted to make some posts. If I have to come back every hour just to make one, I'm not interested; it's more hassle than it's worth. I wonder how many potential members this forum has lost because of this.

The whole mod of 'only view the first post in a topic unless you're a member'. Really, what is the use of that? Aren't forums supposed to be communities, not article lists?

i think that one post an hour is silly, i know one forum that only allowed 5 posts a day. i cant understand why a forum would restrict their activity like this.

even if its on people who the mods must approve their posts, surely the mods can cope with one every minute or two or something

"All made posts must contain correct spelling and grammar. If not, you will get banned"

I almost got banned there (Dutch spelling and grammar is very difficult, one wrong letter was considered wrong there), even though I was a moderator there.

(That forum died soon after that)

I know what you mean there. I know a forum in English that did that, with possibly the most arrogant, elitist administrator on the planet. It's still running, but it's pretty much dead since any good members would get banned near instantly.

wait...."good" members are representative of poor grammar and spelling? I know that must not be what you mean, specifically or in general, but I had to say it...

Paul M must be that arrogant tight Admin. :P jk of course
