    Hi folks!

On my home PC, I am running Windows 98SE, IE5.5 SP2. Most of the time, as I enter Soup Talk, my browser freezes - usually after loading some of the top banner, and one or two of the ads. I have to "End Task" to be able to try again. Once I am in, I am usually able to use it for a while... but pressing "Refresh" is deadly... freezes it up again every time.

I don't know if this is related to your update or not - it only happens on my home PC. My work PC is running Windows 2000 SP2, and has no problems.

I have also tried clearing the Temp internet files (and history)... but it only seems to affect it sporadically.

    Anyone else have this?

I do not have this problem although I am running Windows Me. On my notebook however, I do run Win98se and I dont' have a problem.

My guess would be that something is interfering with your browser program or maybe it's corrupted. You may have to reinstall it or something. Eitherway it sounds more like a program problem than just loading Alien Soup....unless aliens are playing games with you but I doubt that. :asmile:

Does this happen when you open up any other sites? If it seems to happen when openning up other sites especially those with lot's of pictures or banner ads, it's possible you have a resource leak. Also make sure you do not have many programs open at once. Than may help.

Sorry - perhaps I could have explained before describing the problem LOL - my fault. I am actually a professional computer support engineer of some 8 years - so I do know most of the stuff. It's only Soup Talk that causes it; I have recently re-installed Windows 98SE, and re-run all the relevant Windows Updates... so I shouldn't have a browser program or Windows Registry problem (although you can never completely rule these out).

It always happens during the same phase of the web site loading, too... during the loading of the Soup Talk banner and advertisements.

Sorry if I could have said more... I'm beginning to think that maybe it's just one of those "peculiarities" that I'm gonna have to live with.

    Thanks!!

It seems to be slower since the revision for me. I click on a topic and it states, "connect host dvd planet" or whoever on the bottom - then it takes forever to get to the next screen at times.
Sometimes it appears stuck and then I have to hit the back button or reload and try again.

that would be because the dvdplanet web site isn't responding to load their banner ad, which appears near the top of the page... so it couldn't be the soup's fault unless that's some kind of quirky message it freezes on while it does something else

Well... I'm getting DVDPlanet's advert... but when mine locks up it locks up GOOD... no access to any browser functions at all... windows opened above the browser and then closed leave a picture of themselves on the browser, can't close it, can't minimise it, and the "whirlygig" stops in mid-anim.

Seems I'm the only one with the problem... but it only happens on Soup! :(

I'll have to live with it.

    Thanks anyway guys!

Just for fun, I'm going to experiment to try to isolate your specific issue.. I'm going to remove the 2 ads that are called from outside this site, and see what happens...

I may even temporarily remove the header to see what happens as well.. I bet your pc has an issue with the javascript mouse-over code we use on the bottom buttons, if I had to make a guess...

I have a PC running your OS, and it doesn't have the problem so it's very strange. :)

Actually, I hadn't gotten the time to do that since right now. :D

So if this happens to you again, please let me know and I will try what I was going to try a few days ago!

I hope it stays working for ya...

Yep... It's fine - I never had a problem with it. (Except this). And if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
