Have you ever announced something at your forum and had a member constantly put a downer on the new addition or new staff member? The type of grump that just makes everything seem miserable and is damn miserable themselves and puts down anything good for your forum.

The type that you would announce a great contest/competition and he would reply with something like, yeah this is just for the posts blah blah blah.

    Yes, this happens for me.
I tend to ignore it most of the time. If it is nothing that bothered me or the forum I normally tend to facepalm.

You need to stop with your username changes lol im getting confused now ;)

We do tend to simply ignore it, these members are exactly trolls as they do post genuinely helping others out liking everyone else but when something is good and new they simply dont like it. Maybe they have problems with change, Im not sure :D

Yeah i've got 1 member like that. No one likes them but they stick around anyway. Not sure why, they don't get a reaction anymore.

A old moderator of mine was always negative. Needless to say she is on longer a moderator :)

It annoys me when i am putting in 12+ hours a day into my site and someone continues to put a downer on things i tend to ignore them and advise fellow members to ignore them.

LOL, we have a few at .org that spring to mind. Never happy, no matter what you do.

I guess every admin has to face such members.
Well, some members don't like changes. They prefer to stick to the old vintage stuff like forever...

One of the big tips i found when it comes to changes - give them heaps of notice, then they have time to look forward to them.

I usually work to reform or remove such people as needed.

I personally ignore them/mod them away. Depending on how frustration it is. Most of the time I just ignore them.

I tend to ignore them. These people do not deserve the time of day.

If they somehow have a drastically negative impact on the community, I'll take steps to resolve the issue and neutralize their behavior - handling this on a case-by-case basis can be very effective, particularly if done correctly (and civilly).

Every community is going to have their share of "whiners" - it's inevitable. If only there were a feature that would automatically restrict these individuals from joining... ;)

We ban them outright. I instruct my well trained mod team to just ban them and remove their posts. Bad/whiny members are like a cancer on your community. They will infect many others with their attitudes. I remove the cancer very fast. Once the "vibe" gets established that your community doesn't take any BS trolls, you will have a forum that polices itself.
