I just wondered if you guys use a modification to ad adsense (or some other ads) to your forums, or if you manually add the blocks to your templates...?

In vbulletin there are built in ad location templates. Edit those templates and insert the codes that you want.

I sometimes do to be honest, I just wanted to spark some convo on the issue.

I find you have to keep well on top of your block sizes and remove the ones not getting clicked on, and all that can be a bit of a maul when you're just using the vb ad templates.

I use a mod on a couple of newer forums (bit of a trial) that allows me to really delve into where they get displayed and to what usergroups.

I now allow members to change the design to one that has NO adsense if they want to, as that increases CTR BIGTIME! That's tripled my adsense on some forums before now. Getting rid of the ads for all those ad-blond regulars was the best thing I did on one forum once.

There was some brouhaha over vB's built-in AdSense capabilities tracking everyone, so I haven't been using that option.

Really? What benefit would that give them?

None... Because there is no tracking done.

What it does provide is an ability for new customers to get an adsense account more easily because they are being referred to Adsense by a multi-million dollar AdSense publisher. If you're own Adsense campaign is successful after that than IB will get a referral fee paid to them from Google.

If you already had an Adsense account prior to when you associate your account, than IB gains absolutely nothing. You can also remove the association at any time by logging into your Adsense account on Google's servers.
