What format of graphic icons do you prefer to use on your forums?

I'm all about PNG24, but there are so many hold-outs on the web that refuse to upgrade their IE6 to something a little more modern (or use Firefox or something else), and if you look at a PNG24 with IE6 it looks horrible.

I've heard that vB has fixed this, but until just a couple of months ago, whenever Mark looked at one of my sites with PNGs he saw that awful grey box where the pixels should have been transparent.

What's your thoughts on pandering to those that don't like change?

    Thanks! :)

I wasn't aware that it had actually been fixed in vB since Mark "accidentally" upgraded his IE.

I use the appropriate image for the job at hand. If I have a static image that I designed that has more than 256 colours I'll opt for the .png format. However, if it's an image that needs to be animated I'll then opt for .gif. I don't compensate for ie6 users, I thought about this before I created my styles that I would not support or take into account users who still use the ie6 browser. Upgrade or look at a hideous style with .png images showing redundant transparent areas.

I viewed my style in it's early stages with ie6 and it looked hideous. I'd hateto see what it looks like now.
