Almost started a thread exactly like this.

Envelope with precise instructions in a precise place in my home with 2 people knowing what to do. Call ___ and let him know the username & password of the hosting & name registrar accounts. Those 2 people have no desire to do anything on the internet like playing games.

Maybe I'll put a 'goodby' to be posted in there at some point, and a suggestion how to proceed in the future with the forum like who should be in charge.

I'm quite interested in what others do that do not share hosting & name account username and passwords.

    It would die with me...

I guess it would keep running as long as it was being paid for out of my bank account :/ Other then that, like I said it would die with me. Like it has already happened to me

I have nothing planned for my sites in case this happens. :o

One of my partners I work with has access to our hosting account, FTP access, etc., and is an administrator on my forum. Although he is in no way involved in the niche, we're partners - so he has access to everything, just as I do on his sites.

If I were to disappear, I'm not sure how my internet following would be notified, but I'm sure my partner would do everything he can to keep my site maintained for as long as he can. At least that's what I'm hoping.

The next admin in line takes hold of the forum. With institutions from me to my host that he does not abuse the community.

If the next admin declines, then the board will be put offline and then will cease operation when the hosting runs out.

    Very interesting topic.

I am afraid that not many would know if I died since my family don't really know what I do when I am online and they are not really interested in that. Not many of my friends sits online very much and do not know so much of my sites more then they exist so maybe someone there would post on there own account that I am dead but the site would probobly die since I am the only one that knows the pass and such thing to the hosting and domain registrar.

I have nothing actually planned. There is another guy who has access to the servers, so he could grab the database and files if needed. However, no one on Staff has ever been interested at all in learning how to do anything vbulletin wise or tracker wise (none of them touch code). So, even though I have another admin with all the admin powers, I don't think anyone would really know what to do. So, so long site, I guess.

Well seeing as my family isn't too technologically advanced and most of my friends think the internet begins and ends with MySpace relying on them isn't an option.

I don't have anything lined up in case something were to happen to me although my co-admins have my Skype number I suppose if I didn't answer or respond in someway for a week or two they'd realize somethings up. One of my regular member's lives not too far from me I suppose he would cruise the obits.

Both co-admins have full access to my host's ticket systems. I'd imagine they would be be able to get the one tech savvy mod to log in, grab a backup of the DB.. Worse comes to worse all they would be out is the domain and vB license.

I have one friend, who has all of my info on all of my forums, his name and email is on all of my vB licenses.

He's instructed to sell my sites and send the proceeds to my cousin (who has my POA) who will deposit the $ into my sons' savings account.

Good post Peggy. I forgot about the vB license information.

    Interesting topic for sure.

I've been thinking about this subject since day one. The forum is some what tied into my firearm collection. If God forbid something does happens, they will either be handed over to my son depending on age/maturity or to a close friend for safe keeping.
