The day will come when all of us will have to switch. It looks like it could happen sooner than expected.

Well if google are doing this then. I can only presume they will be making people using their Google AdSense program at some point have to use HTTPS to use the ads service. Otherwise what will happen when you have two sites covering same thing and one uses HTTP displaying adsense ads, another site not showing ads using HTTPS. Which of the two is google going to rank highest, taking into account one of them shows their ads (making them money) using HTTP they say they won't rank higher than a site on HTTPS.

What's also going to happen with sites paying google to rank them top of page that use HTTP. Will they put in place they must be using HTTPS for that also? Looks to me if they don't do either of them, then they're going to be contradicting themselves.

Google is pretty good at keeping Adsense and the Search rankings department separate from each other. They have always provided a way to choose http or https with ads and I can't see how it would be in their best interest to get away from this.

Where to begin? I have a few sites running and a few in development. I'm guessing HTTPS is the way to go in the mid term, what should be done? Is it as simple as purchasing the https through your domain registrar and they'll automatically update?

Confused at best way to go about this.

Google announced that they have started prioritizing sites offering HTTPS (HTTP over TLS) in their page ranking algorithm ! Now secure sites will show up higher in google search results !

How much are secure certificates going for now price wise?

I was under the impression that they are really expensive, especially for an organisation...
