I'm sure most people will agree that my web host sucks but I'm using Godaddy.com. I really didn't know any better. Anyhow, I have to call these people so much I got their number on speed dial. It's on my last (please insert every cuss word in the book here) nerves!

Since moving from shared to a VPS I open a support ticket roughly once every two months and its usually a general question I am asking them, it is never a problem with our sites being down or anything I am angry over.

Hostgator shared, it's ok. They keep the server running and it is usually a few seconds delay if there is an issue. Every few months it does go down for a while, but again it self corrects because they keep on top of things.

Last i had an issue was two weeks ago. Seems some of the servers for other people too were down. Idk what was the problem. But they got it solved in no time, fast reply to the support tickets.

I've opened exactly 1 support ticket due to hosting problems in 8 months at FutureHosting.

Any more than 1 per month, and I've move hosts with a heart beat. There are a lot more productive things that could be getting done rather than worrying if your sites are up.

I've had this happen once a week one month. It's slowed down to about once a month but this last time was twice in 24hrs. So I need to look into whats involved in switching host and finding a good place for the site.

What types of issues? Was it something that would resolve itself or something specific to your account that was changed on their end?

The last couple of days had the site showing a complete blank screen...all white with the URL/tag showing 1527? When I called the first time they said it was something on their end, the next time they didn't know what I was talking about.

I'd move. Switching hosts is a fairly simple, though sometimes time consuming process depending on your site size.

Sometimes you can find a hosting company that will do it free of charge for you. HostGator, I believe does.

First you'll need to backup your database, You'll need to do it several times just to be safe as it sounds like GoDaddy is pretty crappy hosting and this is one thing you dont want to screw up.

Next you'll need to backup the files, the easiest and fastest way is via SSH. Make sure to get everything especially your styles and any custom files/scripts.

After that, its just reupload to your new host. If you give them a database backup, usually they'll restore everything for you

3,757 other sites on that server besides yours as per domain tools . com.

I would say moving over to hostgator may not be a bad move, I certainly don't think you are ready for vps.

There were 700 other sites on my hostgator shared server, now it has 1100. Of course it all depends on what those other sites are doing. It has been down for 2 hours twice in the last year. And it came back on its own.

They have never had a major screw up on my account. The loads are a little higher than I'd like but nothing terrible. Obviously you have many choices of hosting providers

If you do move then you would need to update the name servers at godaddy.

I suppose it may be that the only reason I have not had any issues with GoDaddy despite being hosted by them for two years now is that I have never needed tech support from them. So tech support aside, there are no issues.

Before I got a GoDaddy account, my friend hosted my forum, though he too was using GoDaddy, and there were no issues then either.

It was maybe four years ago when I used a host besides GoDaddy; that host was Exocrew. I was amazed that they were providing free hosting for phpBB with FTP and phpMyadmin access, and theoretically limitless hdd and bandwidth, with not so much as a single banner (in the last few months I was hosted by them, they did add one medium sized banner near the top of the forum, though it would have been on the bottom if I had less sections on my forum). There was no catch. Server was reliable then, too, but I was also familiar with the quality of their tech support, which was great; you just posted on their forum and they responded promptly and helpfully.

Now that I think about it, they are a host I can go back to if I choose to leave GoDaddy. My experience with them was awesome.

Heh, I blew up their VPS : /

    Very professional, though.

For Ubiquity, I have had three issues since February, though none in the past three months.

Godaddy crapped out on me again!

This is the third time in one week awww.adminaddict.net_data_MetaMirrorCache_ecc3ca35429faad2d8892a3a5b4d7a0d.gif

The screen is completely white and the URL says http:...= 1531 in the small tab. It's been going on for 40 minutes so far.

edit: Godaddy.com doesn't even know whats up?

They never tell you the issue. All they tell me is sorry it's a known issue and we're working on it. This time the guy told me if it's not resolved by tomorrow to give them a call. If it's not resolved by tomorrow!!

These people are a bunch of Ass Clowns. I'm just going to switch hosting.

If they won't tell what the problem is, for whatever reason, I would say it is time to switch. While the selection of hosting providers is seemingly limitless, hostgator works for me.
