High-Performance Communties: Hardware | Technical Commentaries

I'm writing a series of articles that will go over the hardware, software, and tuning required to support highly active communities. I'm not drawing on just my experience from Elliquiy and Blue Moon here - I've helped a number of people with vBulletin setups, as well as conspired a great deal with Mark and Ben about overall server optimization, who have completely alien usage patterns to my own.

The hardware article is probably of limited use to people using VPSes, since the primary limitation there is the VPS itself. It's more geared to people who are just breaking out of that rut and wondering where to expand, and to somewhat dampen the expectation that you need multiple servers right off (Elliquiy apparently outperforms clusters of twenty machines... gah.)
