For some time now, I've been studying medicine and business, I have a double major. I was writing a blog entry, which I am still typing, about this week, my experiences on some sites, etc. It wasn't until I came to AA that I actually thought of making graphic designing my ACTUAL career. My excuse has always been "it's too risky", but I like to take risks, then again, it's a risk that might involve my lifestyle. I love helping people, medicine has been something I wanted to do, and business because I want to own my own hospital, but art IS my passion. I find myself making art every second and enjoying what I do. I have *some* skills but not all, or at least the necessary enough to create stunning pieces. I don't know... I am actually thinking of being a graphic designer. Though I really don't know how my family would take that...
I think it would be awesome if you were able to run your own web design business/service and made your living from that. I don't know how easy it would be for you to get to that point, but it sounds like it would be something you'd love to do. I know I'd love to be Lee Dodd - the man who got rich and makes a living off building and buying online communities within his corporate network.
Yeah, I actually had a dream involving Setsou Design, which felt pretty darn awesome. I know this is silly, but one of the things that concern me the most is my family point of view. They all work in the government, they wanted me to. Medicine was an ok career for them, but in no way the support art. I had a couple of incidents involving some of my artwork getting burned/destroyed.
That's what I'm probably doing soon. But I gotta be honest, going to school for this shit is USELESS! It takes them 6 months to teach you something I can learn in 2 days, and they charge $4000 extra. The only thing holding me there is the need for a degree. Although I do have a wicked awesome idea for my future site.
Well, I actually go to the ONLY college in Puerto Rico that has Graphic Designing as an actual career and not just courses. My mom and grandfather pay for me, so.... I don't know, hopefully they will support me. Though even if they don't a loan it's ok. I can pay it up with the money I get when I'm 21.
If you can run the company sucessfully, then it should be good to see it working. In theory when running a company like this, you'd need a good staff-base behind the company, management team/sales team/customer services/designers/coders.
Whatever floats your boat, Nei. You have the make the decision that is best for you. Being that you like designing and art, and you have a "passion" for it, then I say go for it. Doing what you love is fun.
I really wouldn't count on making a real decent amount of money on a consistent basis. With the economy the way it is, business is slowing down quite a bit. As a single mom, if I didn't have a part-time offline job, no way would I get by.
