Has anyone heard of Gabbly? It's a pretty neat live chat solution, one of my members pointed it out to me. Basically but any URL after gabbly.com and you have a live chat right on the page. For instance here is one for AA: Gabbly

It's really neat in that Gabbly follows you from page to page, unlike most of our current chat solutions which are stuck in a page and you cannot really chat and participate on the forums simultaneously.

The two problems I see with it:

    a) Gabbly doesn't integrate with vBulletin's login system because it's hosted elsewhere.

    b) It has ads on it, which is a problem for my community as I already have paid advertisers and don't want to dilute them.

I put in an email to their team asking if they had a premium package that I could pay for to remove the ads, if they do I see no problem in ditching flash chat for it.

    What do you all think?

AJAX Chat does the same thing for me and doesn't rely on any external service : )

That's the point of this. ;) Relying on a external service frees up server resources and you don't have to worry about security issues.

But you do have to worry about privacy issues, and relinquish control.

I agree but for informal chat, which are all my board uses Flash Chat for, this would serve us well.
