Just curious as to why you only have a forum set up for discussion of vBulletin specifically? Then the rest are just lumped together in a big general software forum. I understand that vB is currently the favorite. But I'd imagine that having a subforum for IPB, MyBB, phpBB, and SMF would garner a few extra discussions and provide traction for people to stay after visiting.

I understand that I'm new here and this might have already been addressed. My apologies if this is the case.

A huge part of the users is from vB, I guess when more users from the different software start posting, more forums would be added[IMO], but till now I think that vB gains more popularity.

Well the thing is that there are so few threads about the other forum scripts, aside from vBulletin.

If you use the filtering option and show threads for any of the choices, you will see that each one has very few threads. I would hate to set up a sub-forum for each one and with IPB for example, have only four threads inside of it.
But I think it is a good time to go ahead and add the sub-forums even if they aren't very populated in the beginning. I just hope it doesn't come off as a sign of inactivity to visitors.

You generally don't want to create a new sub-forum until you have a bunch of threads to add; I started a thread on this somewhere and the prevailing wisdom was a page or two of threads.

Understood. I know you don't want to populate a forum with lots of empty posts. So I understand the "waiting for a need" before creating the forum. But I was just curious as to if there were a place for MyBB or IPB or SMF, etc users to congregate more specifically, then you might see more discussion like that spring up.

As I said, I was just curious having seen such areas at TAZ and AFusion and all. I will assume that before the year's end there might be another one or two subforums added. I guess we'll wait and see.

    Thanks for the response.

I am willing to add a sub-forum or two, as I think (like you said) that it might spark some new discussions in those areas.

MyBB and phpBB currently have the most threads, so perhaps those are the sections we should add. What do you think?

Don't add anything on my account. I was just thinking out loud. But it's hard to say which ones. I think phpBB has the most users of the free forums. But it seems MyBB and SMF are growing more quickly. And IPB just released 3.0. So maybe MyBB and phpBB might be the best to add.

Or would even a poll in the forum section saying "we're thining of adding a couple of subforums, which would be most needed?" work? But again, if there's not really been a lot of action for one board software or another, then maybe just keep as is.

Just an update: I have added sub-forums for the rest of the major forum scripts: IPB, MyBB, phpBB and SMF. :)

Just noticed that a little bit ago. I think it will be a good move. We'll see.

I like the new sub forums, although you can bet you'll get someone saying stuff like 'why doesn't my favourite forum software have a section?'

But hey, it's better than it was before, and a tad more organised.
