I just got a couple of email notifications about failed logins on two of my forums, one for one of my accounts and another from a freaked-out member wanting to delete her account. I checked on both forums and everything seems fine. The IP address resolves to the Russian Federation, so it looks like it was probably just an automated hacking attempt that failed. Has anyone else experienced this today? Are there any precautions that need to be taken?

Besides the standard precautions of changing passwords and everything else you do if there is someone trying to (or did hack) your website, nothing out of the ordinary you need to do.

This is fairly common. You register on multiple sites with the same username, one of the sites is exploited, hacked, what not. Then someone uses the hacked info to try and login to any site that contains the same username as the one on the hacked site. Just never use same password on multiple sites

I ended up using the htaccess file to disallow that IP address on all my vB forums. The confused/worried emails from members seems to have stopped.
