Every thing is humming along and has achieved equilibrium. Mods & users in perfect harmony. They all seem quite happy and everything is humming along.

I'm scared to go on and visit and screw it up!

Anyone else ever have that feeling? Like your input would only be a distraction?

Well the first part of your message is the exact situation I am in. Everything is going along perfectly and my nourishment is no longer required...

I don't feel that me visiting will possibly disrupt the harmony, but I just don't see the need to visit that often. Perhaps you could say I may be losing interest, but I certainly am not. I'm busy working on this project amongst other things so I don't have the urge to spend most of my time there anymore.

I'm interested in hearing what others have felt, though...

Afraid to visit? No way. If you aren't seen regularly they'll start to think you abandoned the place.

Only real times I'm afraid to visit my own forums is when I'm having an epic debate with a particular member and I know that its the kind of debate that won't end. Point, counterpoint, witty retort, etc.

When I become intensely passionate for a specific project and begin dedicating large quantities of time into it, then yes, I sometimes am hesitant to visit my other online communities. I wouldn't say that I'm "scared" to do so, but like Nick, I simply don't feel the need to do so as often.

No, if anything I'm afraid to leave my forum...a fan of a certain political figure could sign up and I would miss all the action

Seriously, I wouldn't start or own a forum that I was afraid to visit my self.

In cases like that I'd say I was temporarily worn out, but I'd still visit. Maybe I'd save that thread for last though.

Ok, 'scared' is too strong a word. "No need to say anything" might have been better wording.

I'm visiting the site 8 times a day to see if anyone needs anything and taking care of things when they come up but as of late they seem to be self sufficient. The moderators are handling the few things that come up quite well instead of asking for direction as one example.

I was hanging out on the site non-stop for a long time so I suppose this feels like sort of a graduation. It is that time of year isn't it.

We seem to be in the same situation. I used to hover over my site for hours and hours of the day - handling member inquiries, moving threads to proper sections, answering questions, so on and so forth.

It has come to the point that I have a strong team of self-sufficient moderators and some wonderful members who put in a lot of time as well. Everytime I come online to find a question asked by a member, it's usually answered by somebody else first. I'm really only needed when an administrative change or review is required; and my moderators know that within moments of being e-mailed or PMed, I'm on my way.

It's nice to be able to sit back, take some time away, and know that it's still going well. I miss being there all day long, but I also like being able to venture into new projects (like AA :D).

So how long did it take AA to get so self sufficient? I've been at this over 6 months non-stop.

AA isn't self-sufficient. I was referring to my Linnie Forum when talking about being self-sufficient.

AA requires a lot of attention, actually. If I were to take off for a week, I'm fairly confident I would come back to a huge mess, to be honest. ;)

AA is only in its baby stages, as surprising as that may seem. We haven't even made a dent in terms of things to come here. We don't even have the activity levels we're striving for, so we're on a long journey. You won't be seeing me going away anytime soon.

Anyways, my Linnie Forum has taken about a solid year to become self sufficient. We started last February, and it was a few months ago that I stopped spending so much time there.

    Oppsie, my bad.

Yes the Linnie forum is a really nice forum. Really like the pics of the birds above the threads, very tasteful. :)

Sometimes I feel like interrupting the fun and interjecting my not so creative thoughts will ruin the mood, but, I am never afraid to visit my forums.

On my forum members expect to see the owner/mods posting as 'real people' sometimes. If that isn't going on they get suspicious - of what, I'm not sure, just suspicious. So if all is well I find some thread where I can post 'what a cute dog picture' or something.

Back when I first took over, the mods weren't moderating and the trolls were on the rampage, it definitely took some bracing up to visit the forum every day. And see all the maintenance time be spun off into mod notes 'if you post name-calling again ... ! ' Rarely, now, though. :)

I've rarely had that feeling. There's always some form of debate or something that could go either way with most of my communities and result in arguments that could lead to bashings and trolling. I rarely have the opportunity to step back. Even if I did, I'd still probably hang around the community because I enjoyed it.
