Do you take drastic actions

    Hey Guys,

Just wondering, when it comes to high level positions do you take drastic actions against your staff, when they haven't actually done anything wrong? Recently I lost an admin position on a site less than a week after getting it because I didn't have 'spark'. Question, do you think 4 days is long enough for someone to evaluate your performance? (Whereas in those 4 days I had achieved 117 posts)

So my question would you go ahead straight away and demote this person, without first discussing it with them?

I would like to know everyone's view on this :)

    Cheers,
    LTC

If they haven't done anything wrong, I take no action at all. If I feel something is amiss I'll drop them a message to see what's up.

If they do something wrong it depends: Abuse of mod tools, I'll quickly lock down their permissions, discuss it with them, and from there decide what to do. Any other mistake get discussed, no big deal. :)

As to your situation, 4 days isn't long enough to see how someone is going to preform in the long run, even then it sounds like the guy was on the fence about having you on board in the first place. Who knows what the guy's problem is/was...Take you talents elsewhere. :)

Thanks for your input Dan, it is appreciated :) To be completely honest I don't know what more I could have done in the very small amount of time. Yeah, if it'd had been a month or a couple, and my supposed 'lack of spark' had lasted that long then I would understand, and be in complete agreement.

At the end of the day it is the choice of the Admin and if they feel like it's the right thing to do, then let it be. I won't and don't hold grudges. Maybe like you said, this person had a 'grudge' against me before I even joined staff.

Not to mention, as an admin you usually don't want to do anything without bringing it up to other admins' attention.

For example, if I "hire" a new admin, I don't really want him adding new forums or changing vBulletin options or usergroup settings or forum permissions or anything like that without first discussing it.

I completely agree with you. Although even if something like this happened to one of my Admins, no way would I demote them without consultation unless they done something stupid like deleted some forums or deleted a usergroup.

Whereas I didn't do anything like that, all I done was posted, done a few graphics for the site and got treated like something the Admin wiped off the bottom of his shoe.

Usually I try to evaluate admins before bringing them on board. The most drastic action I took was when an admin accidentally deleted a forum and its subforum with a fair amount of member records and examination posts. Luckily none of the content was that interesting or essential. I suspended their forum management ability for a few months until they proved competency and haven't had a problem with him since. More of a unique case with a small forum, small admin staff though.

I think that four days may or may not be enough time. Like many things, it depends. If the staff member isn't performing their designated job function, they go inactive, harass members, etc. then there is an issue. I'd probably give at least a week before evaluating unless something serious came up first.
