If you have a reseller account with a web host or other type that allows you to host multiple domains, have you hosted sites for your friends gratis? Has it been a good experience or have you had to limit them from using all your resources?
I never have, but I certainly wouldn't mind. If I did, I would be sure to set usage limits and let them know that I probably won't extend them everytime they need to grow. I would probably just host them to get started, let them develop their site and acquire funds to expand to their own hosting package. If they contributed a certain amount to the hosting cost, I would possibly upgrade the server and extend their limits.
Sounds like a good policy, Nick; better to have them know their options in advance should their site grow overlarge.
I find that too many people cross the "I just need to host some of my work" to the "I'm hosting half gig porns for some forum" line -- so I have to be pretty cool with the person to offer free hosting anymore; especially if somebody doesn't understand the basics of hosting.
I do host one website for a friend, however to be honest I am in this business to earn a little bit of extra money and not make friends by giving people a leg up. I am happy to help people starting out I don't mind hosting them for a couple months while they get their money situation together, and therefore I will host them - however I will not become their permanent web host unless they pay me something or do something in return for me - I do accept sexual favors lol jks!
