I started giving out custom titles to some admins and members I wanted to honor, but now it's starting to get out of hand; everyone wants a custom title. I am definitely not going to let them set their own unless they're a donor or subscriber, though. Do you use custom titles on your forum?

I only use Custom Titles for myself (changing from Administrator to Website Founder) and give them to donators over $5 and subscribers, oh not to mention my staff but many of them dont know much about vbulletin or custom titles they are just good at their job keeping the forums clean and enforcing the rules!

I don't set any custom titles. Every member can set their own. From time to time I'll play around with some of my fellow staff or even a few long time members that wouldn't take offense and change their title to something funny but I never lock to to 'admin set' they can always change it back at will.

I have done a number of different things with custom titles:
    • I've allowed it for anyone.
    • Just like it is here on AA, only premium members and staff can have custom titles.
    • I've allowed it for "senior" members - those that don't necessarily have a paid subscription, but are very active.
    • I change them myself for some members, kind of like how Boss has a custom title on AA that Chris put there.
...I usually prefer to keep it for the step above regular members (premium, senior, etc.).

I've had horrible experiences with allowing members to change their custom user titles over the years and, because of this, I've limited it to "request-only" changes.

I have never had a problem. In fact, I have just the opposite - none of my members (that have the ability to) ever change their title! :(

We only allow Premium Members and staff members to change their user titles. I think maybe five people on my forum in total have changed them.

I see that you recently changed your user title here, Nick. It's not "witty" enough.

I only allow custom usertitles to my staff members including myself and also subscribers/donators.

Assuming that we're talking about the text title and not the images -

I use it at a posting incentive on general chat forums. Registered members don't have a custom user title. Once they hit 200 posts, they're promoted (cron job) to the next usergroup where they can change their user title.

I believe that only ranks can be images; I'm not sure you can enter HTML into the title fields. (Have never tried it!)

    I believe that's possible if it's an administrator-set user title. :)
