Did you know what you were getting into when you started your forum?

Compared to static web sites, forums can sometimes seem like unruly children; they require a lot of care and nurturing even at the best of times, and they always seem to act up right when you have company or when you just want to go to sleep. Did you really understand what you were getting into when you started one?

 

Nope, I had no idea what I was getting into. I was an Admin with limited power on the board before my current one. I didn't have a clue about upgrades. I certainly had no clue about how to run servers or what they were all about. I had no idea what would happen when the board grew. I didn't realize how many user issues I would have to deal with. Nope, I was a totally clueless n00b when it came to actually running a site.

 

I was the same when I first began. I've been nurtured/grown on free forums up until my latest though I have moderated some IPB in the past. I didn't realize just how much money and time are required to run a community.

 

I had no idea what I was in for. But it's been a good thing and I've learned a lot. Some times the time requirements are a bit overwhelming. But I find running my site is really rewarding.

 

Yes, I did! But I didn't expect it to be so demanding. I wish I would have, I would have planned out a bit better.

 

I had no idea on how much work, sweat, tears, effort, and just wanna pull your hair out and scream stuff it was gonna take to run a forum.

 

I didn't know anything about it beyond my experience of posting as a regular member on previous forums. I used to post so many questions on the support forum of the free phpBB host I used. When I got the answers I never understood them anyway.

 

At first, I did have a bit of an idea, but as I began getting more involved in the management aspect of running a discussion forum, I became lost... and quickly. There are a variety of complexities and small details that one would miss at first - upon spending more time in the back-end interface, these details become quite noticeable (and they sometimes cause you to bang your head repeatedly).

It's fun as hell, though, and I love it.

 

same here, at least on the first forum. But on every forum since, yes. And I still love it. :spin:

 

In addition to this, it has also brought much joy, pride and an overall pleasing feeling of success.
