Last time I checked how many links of my site are on Google (using site:domain.com) I had 16.400 links.

About a week ago, I installed vbseo sitemap generator. Now when I use the site:domain.com command, I only have 839 links.

Have I penalised for something or is this normal?

It'll generally take 3 months to get completely reindexed after adding vbseo.

Using the site:domain.com command shows the number of indexed pages, not the number of links.

If you want to see the number of links, use the link:domain.com command

And its perfectly normal for the number of indexed pages to change. My number of indexed pages tends to float anywhere from 800,000 - 250,000 pages.

But like Brandon said, if you change your URLs, it could take several months for them to get indexed again.

Thanks, yeah I meant indexed pages.

I haven't changed any url though, I only added the sitemap generator

Changing of indexed pages happens, its just one of those things. A few days ago my forum had over 800,000 pages indexed, now its only about 280,000,,,,.

To help get more of you pages indexed, add tags to your threads and then submit those tag pages to social bookmarking sites.

If you have a blog, link to your tag pages from your blog.

Submit your rss feed to a few rss feed directories,,,,,.

Deep links will help get more of your pages indexed.

    Just do link:yoursite.com

It will show you the indexed pages.

I found the answer, it was because of Google maintenance

Onrust over opschoning Google-index | Webwereld (Sorry, in Dutch)

Experts believe Google was integrating Caffeine into their system and they necessarily cleaned parts of their index

A little piece of useless info... I use google to find my indexed pages or links but also I use it find my supplemental page/main indexed page ratio.

    Total indexed pages: site:www.yoursite.com
    Main indexed pages: site:www.yoursite.com -inallurl:www.yoursite.com

I try and keep as many pages out of the supplemental index as I can.

Need more info, try searching google supplemental index.

Don't mean to threadjack. If this is offtopic or irrelevant just delete it, thought I would throw it in here cause you don't see a pile of info on it in these admin type communities.

Got it sorted? Yeah, my bad. This needs to happen on the google search page. Type it in as if you're searching for something...technically I guess you are searching lol
